Trail Blazer

Working on this new quilt.  It is for the trailer - hence the name Trail Blazer.  We will be blazing new trails!  Looking forward to it.  Our first trip will be to the east coast next year.  This quilt was made with 2.5 x 7 inch strips.  Used only fabric I already had that came from Bali (2009 trip).  I got a little cut happy though and cut way too many strips.  So will have to think of another quilt to do with all the extra 2.5 inch strips.  Did purchase the yellow batik for the strips between the braids.  Have a blue fleece with maple leaves for the backing.  Will be a cuddle quilt so it is light and easy to wash.  Don't think we need anything too warm for the trailer as we don't plan on doing any winter camping.

Baby Blue 4 Patch

Same pattern as the Baby Pink 4 Patch.  Completed April 2018.  Same issue with the binding, except instead of a decorative stitch, just used a straight stitch.  Although you can't see it from the picture, the 4 patch fabrics are similar, so you don't see the distinctive squares.  I usually learn something from each quilt I make - from this one - use fabric that will show off the patch.  Size is 30 x 50 inches, blue fleece for the backing.

Baby Pink 4 Patch

Made April 2018.  Made from flannel with a fleece backing.  Size is 30 x 50 inches.  In the ditch straight quilting.  Tried something different on the binding, used a decorative stitch.  When it lined up it looked good, but of course it didn't line up in all places.  Not sure how to correct this as it seems to happen with most of my bindings.  I sew the binding on the front first and then fold to the back and finish the stitching on the back.  If I did the opposite you would still see the uneven line on the back side - probably not as bad as the front, but the same effect.  I could go back to hand stitching the binding, but that is a lot of work and hurts my finger.  But I think I will need to do that to get the finish I want.

Lorax

Crib size quilt made from a panel.  Used a soft blue minky type fabric for the backing  and straight line stitching for the quilting.

Made from a panel.  Used coordinating fabric for the sashing which I bought at the same time as the pane.  I have to admit, this fabric I only had for about 2 years before getting it done - I think I am getting better :)  lol

Crib size quilt.  Soft blue fabric on the back.  Straight line quilting.

This came from a panel that was supposed to be made into a book.  I decided a quilt would be better.  Did the sashing strips from leftovers I had.  Definitely trying to use up fabric I already have.  Stash does not seem to be going down though :(  Will it ever?  lol

Put a soft pink backing on the quilt and quilted using straight lines.  Am going to save this quilt for my new grand daughter that is expected May 14, 2018.

Cancer Sucks

Shortly after I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a very good friend of mine was also diagnosed.  Fortunately, they caught hers early and she only needed surgery and radiation.  I had some extra log cabin squares left over from the cancer quilt I made myself, so made her a quilt as well.  She said she used it a lot as well while she was recovering.  Also found her cancer through an annual mammogram.  Ladies - can I stress enough to go get your annual screenings???????  It does save lives.

Used the same soft pink backing that I used on mine.  Is also a lap size quilt.  Quilting using in the ditch stitching.

I hope I never have to make another one of these.

Cancer Quilt

February 2017 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Ductal Carcinoma.  Definitely changed me life.  Just before I started chemo, I completed this quilt.  Had done the log cabin squares before my surgery and my girlfriend Carol sent me 8 blocks that she made (the more complicated blocks) - lol.  Put a soft backing on the quilt and quilted it using a double heart pattern, which came from one of the blocks. Is a lap size quilt.  It was definitely used a lot during my surgery and treatments as I spent a lot of time in my recliner. 

Lump was found during my annual mammogram - so YES, mammograms do save lives!  But what turned out what I thought would be a simple lumpectomy and radiation turned into a lot more.  The cancer had started to spread and was very aggressive, so needed not only the surgery (lump and lymph nodes), but also 4 months of chemotherapy, one month of radiation and a full year of Herceptin treatment (every 3 weeks).  Still not finished all my treatments - end of June 2018 will be done and looking forward to it.  Hoping movement and strength will come back to my arm as it is still very painful.  Who would have thought that it would take over a year to recover from a surgery.

I am still having problems when it comes to using my rotary cutter so my quilting has been limited this last year.  Looking forward to when I will be able to do it all again.  In the meantime, I think my husband has to learn how to use the rotary cutter :) 

My wish is that no one will have to go through the journey I have been on.

Kitty Squares

Picked up this quilt while in Seattle at Pike Street Market.  Was very easy to do.  Lap quilt size.  Has been sold.

Funky Chicken

This was a fun wall hanging to do.  Liked the black on white chickens that I used for the backing. 

Baby Love

Created from a panel.  Used a soft fleece backing.  Was sold.

Angels We Have Heard on High

Created this wall hanging on a course I took that showed how to do this type of quilting.  Was fun to make.  Hangs on my wall during the Christmas season, but could be hung all year round.

Jelly Roll Fun

Made from a jelly roll.  This is my first quilt that was done using a jelly roll.  Like the convenience of the strips already being cut and color coordinated.  Is not yet sandwiched and quilted.  Plan on putting  a border around it so it becomes a queen size quilt. 

Mixed UP

This was a fun pattern to try.  Screwed up in the cutting, so is a bit different than what was planned.  But it still turned out great.  Backing is a pink fleece blanket.  Was given to one of my great-nieces.  Single bed size.

A beautiful crib quilt.  Actually made 2 of these.  Purple backing on both of the quilts. 

Tulips

This was my first attempt at paper piecing.  Was sold to a lady I worked with.  Unfortunately, it was destroyed when the building she had it in went up in flames.  Made a replacement one for her.

Flannel Squares

Single bed size quilt made out of flannels.  Nice and soft :)

Easter Squares

The block is actually called Sisters.  But the colors used seem to give it the Easter name.  Smaller throw quilt.  Great as a play quilt for babies or a lap quilt.  Would also be just the right size for a wheelchair quilt.

Fenced Houses

I made this quilt early in my quilting life :)  Probably early 2000's, not sure of the exact date.  Let this be a lesson to other quilters ... take the time to put labels on your quilts as soon as you finish them!!!

Pattern was from a Thimbleberries book.  Combined 2 patterns, the houses were one and the rail fence was from another.  Like how it turned out and has hung in my entrance for a lot of years. 

This would be a good quilt if you are looking for something to make for someone who may be moving.  All of the neighbors and friends could sign along the fence to personalize it.  Or you may want to fussy cut the windows to include people or animals. 

Dreams

This is one of my favorite patterns.  Maybe because it looks all jumbled up - which is how I feel at times :)  It can be done in 3 different sizes, and yes, I have the templates for all 3 sizes - hoping to do another one.  Quilt is single bed size and has a blue backing.

This was a block of the month quilt.  Made from batiks and lots of triangles.  Single bed size.

Flannel Baby

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted anything on here.  Time to get at it again, as I have many quilts to show.  This quilt is a crib size baby quilt, made from flannels.  Nice and soft.  Don't remember exactly the year it was made, but early 2000's sometime.  Will try to get a better picture later to replace this one.
